SSR Product Technician II
1st shift
Watertown, WI
Pay Range: $24.76 - $31.19 per hour
Hours: 5:00am to 2:00pm (The end time will vary depending on production needs); Overtime expected and required.
Position Overview:
The Sustainable Swine Resources (SSR) division focuses on driving value optimization and sustainability for the porcine tissue and co-product raw materials available from our harvest facilities. The individual in this position will be responsible for handling, preparing, and packaging porcine tissue for commercial and research life science applications. This is an opportunity to act as an owner to continuously realize maximum value and societal importance of porcine raw materials.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate activities and product preparation daily
- Prepare samples per specifications and follow company SOPs in an efficient manner
- Operate microscope, incubator, pipettes, syringes, freezer and other laboratory equipment
- Perform tasks in an animal harvest/processing facility environment and collaborate with harvest members to procure material
- Maintain and setup basic laboratory and custom processing equipment
- Assist and train other technicians as necessary
- Follow Quality Assurance and Quality Control protocols and procedures
- Stock and prepare reagents and lab supplies as required
- Develop new SOPs as business opportunities present themselves
- Daily reporting and data entry while maintaining daily, monthly, and quarterly records
- Complete annual training requirements
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent, BS or College Certificate in a science field preferred
Experience:
- Knife Skills preferred but not required
- Past Animal Handling experience strongly preferred
Skills and Competencies:
- Scientific skills and the ability to independently work in a manufacturing/lab setting
- Ability to harvest and work with animal tissues
- Laboratory experience including equipment set up and following lab procedures
- Proven communication skills both with internal and external customers
- Excellent data entry and record keeping skills
- Experience in laboratory settings preferred
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to hand grip/lift up to 50 lbs, push 30 lbs, and pull 60 lbs
- Walking and/or Standing throughout the shift
- Bending and/or Reaching throughout the shift
Other Requirements:
- This job requires hands-on interaction with pig carcasses, along with various body parts and organs individually. We want to ensure that candidates for this position have a high enough comfort level with blood and internal organs of the sow.
- Ability to work with inside conditions that include exposure to moderate noise levels and moderate odor.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment, post-offer drug screen, physical and background check.
