Livestock Procurement Buyer

Location: Watertown, WI

 

Position Overview:

We have a great opportunity for you to join our Procurement Team. Procurement responsibilities will include purchasing sows, ordering natural casings, developing relationships with key suppliers, manage trucking and appointment times, ensuring USDA and animal welfare compliance at our harvest facilities. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for live animal procurement at Johnsonville’s harvest facilities
  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, harvest plant leaders and plant stockyard personnel
  • Learn all aspects of SAP for Procurement and have the ability to utilize system to perform required reporting and accounting functions
  • Ensure Animal welfare guidelines are being adhered to at all times as established by Johnsonville, American Meat Institute and USDA guidelines
  • Work closely with our Winkler facility (Joint Venture) on sow procurement
  • Ensure all weighing practices are carried out in accordance with Packer and Stockyards Administration guidelines
  • Ensure all transporters are Transport Quality Assurance certified and their performance meets Johnsonville expectations
  • Perform Humane Handling and Transportation audits as suggested by the American Meat Institute guidelines

 

Education:

  • College degree preferred or minimum of three years of experience as a livestock buyer (dealer network or plant)

 

Experience

  • Knowledge of livestock; market trends, trucking, handling and evaluating performance
  • Understand Livestock Marketing
  • Computer skills – Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, SAP preferred
  • Understands regulatory concerns – USDA, Packers and Stockyards guidelines, Animal Welfare
  • Ability to understand P &L’s, departmental, and associated financial success metrics
