Knife Sharpener – 2nd shift
Watertown, WI
Starting Hourly Rate: $27.86. Skill block completion will increase hourly rate.
Pay Range: $27.86 - $30.22 per hour. (plus $1.50 shift premium)
Hours: 2:00pm – 10:45pm, Monday-Friday (Overtime as production demands)
Position Overview:
This position will be the key to the success of your fellow members in the Harvest and Harvest Processing areas. Sharp knives help prevent injury and help members maintain a positive morale within their positions. You will have the opportunity to think proactively and understand how Harvest affects plant flow within this role.
Responsibilities:
- Communicate with others in a professional manner to ensure your customers are getting a quality product, so they can perform their job to the best of their abilities
- Retrieve dull knives from the production floor, sharpen the dull knives and return them to the production floor
- Work within SAP to complete PMs and enter work orders
- Perform PMs on tools related to the job
- Work together with other Harvest Members to obtain World Class harvest results in safety, yields, usages, and efficiencies
- Participate in daily improvement meetings
- Set goals and objectives; both personal and as a team member to acquire "superlative" performance in order to support the Johnsonville Way
- Grow, develop, and stretch yourself by continuing to find new and better ways to meet your commitments to yourself, your team and to JVL
Education:
- High School Diploma Preferred
Experience:
- Knife Skills preferred to ensure proper sharpening techniques
Skills and Competencies:
- Bi-lingual fluency in Spanish preferred
- Excellent communication skills
- Good organizational skills
- Decision making / prioritizing
- Ability to multitask
Physical Demands:
- Requires full range of body motion: standing, squatting, kneeling, upper body twisting: occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, hand and wrist mobility.
Other Requirements:
- TEMPERATURE - Will be exposed to wide variations in temperature, operating temperature of the Boning department is approximately 40 degrees F.
- Ability to work with inside conditions that include exposure to moderate noise levels and moderate odor
- Ability to pass a pre-employment, post offer drug screen, physical and background check
