Harvest Humane Animal Handling
2nd shift
Watertown, WI
Starting Hourly Rate: $27.86. Skill block completion will increase hourly rate.
Pay Range: $27.86 - $29.15 per hour. (plus $1.50 shift premium)
Hours: 2:00pm – 10:45pm, Monday-Friday (Overtime as production demands)
Position Overview:
This position will rotate through several animal handling/stunning process functions in the beginning of the Harvest process. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of animal behavior and experience moving them. They will also ensure compliance with safety, quality, and sanitation requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Proper Humane Animal Handling is critical to this position. The successful candidate will understand that the animals need to be treated with respect at all times.
- Be able to perform and rotate through several job functions in the Animal Handling area at line speed.
- This position requires the candidate to move pigs within the barn using handheld rattle paddles and boards, assist with moving animals into and through the stunning process and sticking.
- Notify team leaders and/or maintenance of problems
- Perform all jobs in a safe manner at line speed
- Ability to perform responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner
- Comply with GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), USDA regulations and safety rules at all times
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
Experience:
- Knife Skills preferred but not required
- Past Animal Handling experience strongly preferred
Skills and Competencies:
- Teamwork is a must
- Good verbal communication skills
- Good decision making and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attendance and performance record
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to hand grip/lift up to 50 lbs, push 30 lbs, and pull 60 lbs
- Walking and/or Standing throughout the shift
- Bending and/or Reaching throughout the shift
Other Requirements:
- This job requires hands-on interaction with pig carcasses, along with various body parts and organs individually. We want to ensure that candidates for this position have a high enough comfort level with blood and internal organs of the sow.
- Ability to work with inside conditions that include exposure to moderate noise levels and moderate odor.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment, post-offer drug screen, physical and background check.
