AMR (Automated Meat Recovery) Machine Operator

Deboning Room

First Shift

 

Position Overview:

As an Operator, your Job duties would normally contain set-up and tear-down of machine (Grinders, mixers, etc.).  Understanding the process of the machine and changing settings accordingly on the monitor to achieve the best product.  Then Packing and stacking the product into 50lb. boxes on a pallet.  This position does require SAP knowledge and how to enter data accurately for the production run.  If the line is short-handed, you may be pulled to the deboning line and knowledge of the jobs is a requirement in times of need.    

 

WHAT IS DE-BONING? De-Boning is the department at Johnsonville where Members remove the meat from the sow’s carcass. The goal of De-boning is to remove as much meat as possible, so that the meat can then be mixed with other ingredients to make it into brats, breakfast sausage and ground pork. There are a variety of different positions on the De-Boning Floor, but all of them require some form of handling the sow’s body or body parts.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of the AMR process
  • Comfortable running the grinding and mixing process
  • Stacking 50lb. boxes onto pallets
  • Filling boxes with product
  • Understanding of SAP and how to record data tracked for the day
  • Teardown and set up of the machine
  • Maintaining line speed for maximum yields, this also means troubleshooting problems that may occur with the amount of product that is received
  • Cutting and preparing meat for further processing
  • Using a straight knife and motorized knife to remove meat
  • Cleaning, sharpening, and maintaining knives, tools and equipment
  • Learn and perform several job functions in department at line speed
  • Adhere to all GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and Safety policies
  • Attend all plant meetings and complete monthly safety observations and trainings
  • Complete all other duties as assigned

 

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred

 

Experience:

  • Knife Skills preferred but not required
  • SAP knowledge preferred but not required
  • Grinding experience preferred but not required

 

Skills and Competencies:

  • Teamwork is a must
  • The ability to coach your peers 

 

Physical Demands:

  • Walking up and down stairs throughout the day
  • Must be able to carry and lift up to 50 pounds throughout the shift
  • Walking and/or Standing throughout the shift
  • Bending and/or Reaching throughout the shift
  • This job requires hands-on interaction with a variety of different cuts of meat from the pig, along with the bones of the carcass itself as well as any blood that accompanies it. We want to ensure that candidates for this position have a high enough comfort level with the blood and bones of the sow.
  • TEMPERATURE - Will be exposed to wide variations in temperature, operating temperature of the department is approximately 40 degrees F.
  • Ability to work with inside conditions that include exposure to moderate noise levels and moderate odor

Starting Hourly Rate:        $23.53  

 

Hours:                                 1st shift – Set up begins at 5:00am.  Expected to be finished with set up and in the Tailgate (meeting) by 6:00am. The end time will vary depending on production needs; Overtime expected and required.  Tear down will be about an extra 40 minutes after the line is finished.
