Sustainability Internship
Summer 2026
Position Overview:
Join Johnsonville’s sustainability team for a summer you’ll never forget! We know that your internship experience will provide you with valuable knowledge and quality experience.
The successful candidate will take part in a program designed to provide an overview of sustainability in a corporate, specifically agricultural-focused, setting. Through project work, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with business partners across the organization to see how sustainability impacts every aspect of our business.
You will also participate in organized activities with interns from across the company, providing additional networking and learning opportunities.
Responsibilities:
Internship responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Assist in the quantification of Johnsonville’s carbon footprint (primarily scope 3).
- Gather responses and report on the ESG metrics defined in the Meat Institute’s Protein Pact.
- Prepare packaging supply reports for several states who require EPR (extended producer responsibility) compliance.
- Participate in sustainability-related committees / workstreams (sustainable packaging, regulatory / compliance, decarbonization, etc.).
- Ad hoc ESG-related projects as necessary.
- Work closely with your assigned coach, who will mentor you and help further enhance your internship experience.
Education:
- Candidate must currently be working towards a Bachelor’s degree in sustainability or an environmental-related field from an accredited university (junior or senior status preferred).
- 3.5 minimum GPA strongly preferred.
Experience:
- Some prior work experience preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
- Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to build relationships and collaborate with others.
- Desire to learn, grow and contribute in a team-based environment.
- Quick learner with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Be able to handle working on multiple projects concurrently.
- Must possess a drive for excellence.
