Director of Health and Safety
Position Overview:
The Director of Health and Safety will set the strategic vision and lead all aspects of health, safety, and security across Johnsonville LLC’s global manufacturing network. This role is responsible for building a culture of safety excellence, ensuring compliance, and standardizing best practices across sites.
Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership to drive long-term improvements in health and safety
- Create and implement standardized safety programs, policies, and reporting frameworks across all sites
- Monitor compliance with global safety regulations, ensuring consistent execution at each facility
- Coach and mentor site safety teams to strengthen capability, accountability, and knowledge transfer
- Track and report safety KPIs and health metrics to leadership, identifying opportunities for proactive improvement
- Lead incident investigations, ensuring root cause analysis and sustainable corrective actions
- Partner with operations and engineering on equipment and process design to proactively eliminate hazards
- Collaborate with environmental and FSQA leaders on compliance, process safety management, and food defense/security programs
- Serve as Johnsonville’s representative in interactions with regulatory bodies, auditors, and insurance partners
Education:
- BS or BA in Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, or related field required; Master’s Degree preferred
- Professional safety certification (CSP or equivalent) strongly preferred
Qualifications:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in manufacturing, with at least 10 years leading health and safety under OSHA compliance
- Proven track record of building and standardizing corporate-level safety programs
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to set vision, align priorities, and influence across functions
- Deep knowledge of OSHA standards, risk management, and workers’ compensation case management
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with confidence presenting to executives and regulators
- Skilled facilitator with the ability to train, coach, and inspire safety ownership across all levels
- Tech-savvy and data-driven, able to leverage reporting tools to drive insight and action
- Demonstrated self-starter who thrives in a complex, multi-site environment
