Assistant Laboratory Coordinator
Position Overview:
The Assistant Laboratory Coordinator will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the daily operations of the microbiology and chemistry laboratories, leverage competencies in testing procedures, new technology, project management, and statistical process control. This position reports to the Laboratory Coordinator and will have direct coaching responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and delegate special laboratory projects on an as needed basis
- Serve as back up to the Laboratory Coordinator
- Develop those you coach by identifying and providing opportunities to continually advance your team both technically and professionally; ability to teach and train
- Serve as a technical resource for the company in the areas of microbiology and food safety quality
- Lead and Run studies to evaluate new detection technologies and procedures
- Obtain and Maintain laboratory certification and proficiency programs
- Manage the Enivonrmental Monitoring Program, leading microbial investigations and deliver recommendations
- Perform and follow Chemistry and Microbiology Quality Assurance and Quality Control protocols and procedures and ensure the team adheres to them
- Analyze, trend, and draw conclusions of various food safety and quality data sets using statistical software programs
- Perform General Microbiology and Chemistry tasks with World Class Technique
- Manage and Maintain Laboratory Supply Inventory and order new materials.
- Support communication and collaboration within the team and within cross functional teams outside of the laboratory.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food/Meat Science, Microbiology, and/or Biology, required
Experience:
- 5 years of equivalent work experience in a laboratory setting (preferably food microbiology) required
- Strong prior experience in practical and applied microbiology and/or Food Chemistry required
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong understanding of quality statistics and statistical programs
- Data management, analysis, and interpretation skills required
- Strong communication skills (verbal, written, presenting, listening) required
- A basic understanding of molecular biology and chemistry
- Advanced trouble shooting and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access)
- Flexible and adaptable; able to adjust to changing circumstances and priorities
- Ability to make key decisions that impact the business
- Ability to work both independently and as a team member
- Coaching/leadership experience is strongly desired to foster a positive work environment
- Building strong relationships with colleagues, fostering teamwork, and communicating effectively with diverse individuals
- Time management and organizational skills a must
- Comfortable with using lab equipment and software, including laboratory information management systems (LIMS)

Member Status: Full Time, Salaried
Shift: 1st Shift; 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, overtime expected. Occasional Off Shift and
Weekend work possible – due to supporting plant operations.
Travel: Up to 5-10% of your time
