Assistant Food Safety & Quality Coordinator

Position Overview:

This is a great opportunity for someone who has passion and drive for food safety and quality. The responsibilities of this position are, but not limited to, supporting the FSQ Coordinator, help develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures as they relate to the safety and quality of products and processes ensuring compliance to GMP standards, USDA and other regulatory requirements. This full-time position will function during the hours of first shift. Schedule may vary depending on production needs.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the daily HACCP documentation is complete and proper follow-ups are documented
  • Review and maintain HACCP plan: ensuring it is complete, compliant with regulatory requirements, and reflects the products and processes represented by the plan
  • Represent Food Safety and Quality on cross-functional project teams
  • Exemplify and advocate the Johnsonville Way every day.
  • Identify trends and process variation within food safety/quality and execute corrective actions with the help of plant operations and continuous improvement to optimize the safety and quality of our products.
  • Lead third party audits and serve in a lead or support role in regulatory audits
  • Troubleshoot day-to-day food safety and quality opportunities to help the teams define comprehensive and proactive solutions
  • Use technical expertise to educate members on animal handling, food safety, and quality applications and systems
  • Lead project teams that improve the quality of the process and product
  • Coach and drive ownership with members in the areas of first pass quality, price of non-conformance, customer service, and member development.
  • Plan, organize and coach the work of the Food Safety Quality Leader

 

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • Bachelor’s degree in food science, Microbiology or a related field preferred

 

Experience:

  • Experience in food production/manufacturing required; meat/poultry processing preferred
  • Harvest experience is preferred
  • Experience in food production laboratory preferred
  • Experience participating in/leading third party audits preferred

 

Skills and Competencies:

  • Knowledge and understanding of food safety, HACCP systems, USDA/FDA, Animal Handling and Welfare programs and regulatory requirements and have established regulatory relationships.
  • Experience with fresh product shelf life and microbiology.
  • Knowledge of GMPs
  • SQF Practitioner certification desired.
  • Experience with SAP desired.
  • Demonstrated communication and listening skills.
