Position Overview
Works under the direction of the EH and S Manager to promote and ensure Partner safety and compliance with company policies and all applicable OSHA regulations. Conducts safety audits and training programs. Promotes a strong safety culture on the assigned shift. Supports the safety, food safety, quality, SQF, GMP and USDA programs and requirements.
Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Promote a high level of safety awareness with all departments and personnel on the shift.
- Work closely with shift leadership to ensure consistent compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct equipment orientation with new temporary workers, new hires and partners promoted into new roles on all applicable safety procedures associated with their position and work environment, including pinch points, PPE requirements, cut hazards, guarding, and Lockout/Tagout requirements.
- Conduct monthly on-shift safety refresher training sessions as assigned.
- Conduct weekly Safety Observation Audits and monthly Lockout/Tagout Audits.
- Assist with conducting the monthly Plant Safety Committee meetings and promote participation with shift personnel.
- Assist with conducting monthly facility inspections, including fire extinguisher and emergency lighting.
- Assist with handling of work-related injuries; provide first aid assistance to injured partners and provide Worker's Comp forms if treatment by a medical professional is needed.
- Assist with conducting accident and near-miss incident investigations; ensure completion of the report form in a timely manner, and assist with identifying root cause of incidents.
- Monitor work restrictions to ensure the return of injured partners to the workplace; work with the EHand;S Manager, HR, facilitators and managers to identify appropriate light duty work to accommodate work restrictions.
- Assist with periodic evacuation/tornado safety drills and fire extinguisher training.
- Promote the Safety Improvement Request (SIR) program to encourage partner involvement and engagement.
- Communicate safety messages to all departments on the shift; discuss safety related topics at pre-shift meetings, and hold tool box talks as they relate to safety.
- Ensure First Aid cabinets are fully stocked with appropriate supplies.
- Maintain the inventory of sanitation rain gear and other PPE, and issue replacements to partners as needed.
- Provide replacement Lockout/Tagout locks, hasps, utility knives, etc. to authorized users as needed.
- Assist with updating the SDS binders to ensure availability of current data sheets.
- Identify potential safety hazards and make recommendations to the EHand;S Manager for resolution.
Education
A minimum of an Associate's Degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Training or related field is preferred
Experience
Previous experience facilitating and promoting safety programs in a manufacturing environment is also preferred Previous experience in the processed meat industry is strongly preferred.
Skills
Communication Skills:
Must possess a strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations Must have the ability to develop and conduct training classes covering a wide variety of safety topics to a diverse work group, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Bilingual skills in Spanish are strongly preferred.
Computer Skills
Must possess advanced computer proficiency, specifically with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and the Internet
Mathematical Skills
Must possess basic math skills, with the ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
