Position Overview
The Human Resources Manager is responsible for leading and supporting the HR function within a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. This role plays a key part in driving employee engagement, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance, and fostering a culture focused on safety, performance, and continuous improvement. The HR Manager partners closely with plant leadership to support organizational goals and team member success through effective HR programs and day-to-day guidance.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
HR Leadership & Partnership
- Partner with plant and operations leadership to implement HR initiatives that support business and workforce objectives.
- Provide guidance on workforce planning, staffing levels, and employee development.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to managers on HR policies, procedures, and employee relations.
Talent Acquisition & Retention
- Lead recruiting efforts for hourly and salaried positions, ensuring timely and quality hires.
- Support onboarding and orientation programs to promote retention and engagement.
- Assist with developing retention strategies and workforce engagement activities.
Employee Relations & Engagement
- Foster a positive, respectful workplace through proactive employee relations and conflict resolution.
- Conduct investigations and recommend appropriate actions when necessary.
- Coordinate employee engagement programs, surveys, and recognition initiatives.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure HR policies and practices comply with federal, state, and local labor laws.
- Partner with EHS to support safety initiatives, training, and incident reporting.
- Maintain accurate employee records and support audits or compliance reviews.
Performance Management & Training
- Support the performance review process and assist managers in coaching and feedback discussions.
- Identify and coordinate training needs to build skills and improve performance across departments.
HR Operations
- Maintain HR metrics and reports to track turnover, attendance, and other key indicators.
- Support payroll processing, benefits administration, and HRIS data management in collaboration with corporate HR.
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation of personnel actions and updates.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This role includes direct supervisory responsibilities for the HR Generalist, HR Coordinator, and People Operation Specialist (POPs).
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, Industrial Training, or related field is normally required and strongly preferred.
Experience
Must possess a minimum of three years’ experience in HR. In a multi-shift manufacturing environment preferred. PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred.
Skills
Communication Skills
Must possess excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group settings. Must be able to build strong relationships across all levels of the organization. Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
Computer Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word) and experience with HRIS systems required.
Mathematical Skills
Strong math skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
Other Requirements
Reasoning Ability
Ability to analyze problems, identify root causes, and implement practical solutions in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to interpret and apply company policies, procedures, and regulations.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear. May occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
Work Environment
The HR Manager works primarily in an office setting with occasional work in production areas. The production environment may include varying temperatures (35°F to 100°F), loud noise levels, and wet/slippery surfaces. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) such as frocks, hairnets, slip-resistant footwear, and hearing protection are required in production areas.
