Position Overview
Plans, coordinates, and directs the food quality program designed to ensure quality control and quality assurance of the production of products consistent with established GMP and USDA food standards Acts as Food Safety Compliance Representative for the organization.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Formulate and maintain quality objectives that are integrated with achieving corporate goals.
- Ensure Regulatory Compliance.
- Integrates and disseminates Salm quality philosophy to all personnel throughout the organization.
- Ensure corporate compliance with all aspects of SQF and customer-specific standards; administer Quality Assurance programs to ensure product is produced to customer specifications.
- Serve the company's HACCP Coordinator and Food Safety Compliance Representative.
- Serve as back up to the SQF Compliance Manager.
- Act as a liaison between Salm Partners and the respective customers' Food Safety and; QA groups.
- Develop, maintain, execute and administer Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) and related Master Sanitation programs.
- Develop and initiate standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation.
- Review data obtained during all quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure consistency with company policies and procedures.
- Coordinate the selection, implementation, inventory control and ordering of sanitation chemicals.
- Develop, maintain, execute and administer HACCP and related food safety programs, including Prerequisite Programs, Standard Operating Procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Develop, maintain and administer environmental and; product sampling.
- Investigate and respond to customer and consumer complaints in a timely fashion with a coordinated positive resolution
- Oversee and manage the Internal Audit and Corrective Action processes for the company; ensure prompt responses and changes are implemented as necessary.
- Communicate the Quality Key Performance Indicators (KPI) metrics on a weekly, monthly and yearly basis, keeping the leadership team abreast of significant issues or developments.
- Design and implement quality training programs for plant partners on QA and Food Safety procedures.
- Apply statistical process control (SPC) methods for analyzing data to evaluate current processes and process changes.
- Reviews all data obtained during quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure consistency with Salm policies and procedures.
- Evaluate new vendors to ensure they are able to meet the customer requirements for raw material selection, and ensures vendor compliance with quality through a Vendor Review program.
- Direct inspection and testing activities to ensure continuous control over materials and products.
- Maintain a current working knowledge of government and industry quality codes and standards.
- Actively support and participate in the safety initiatives of the organization.
- Evaluate and develop individual competency development plans for department to build bench strength and the next generation of Leaders.
- Responsible for meeting company OKR's, (Objectives Key Results) as set forth by Salm Partners Leadership.
- Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises the FSQA Supervisors. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining; addressing complaints and resolving work issues. Thorough understanding of USDA-FSIS regulations and standards is required.
Education
A minimum of Bachelor's degree in Quality, Microbiology, Food Science or related field is preferred. Experience and demonstrated proficiency will be considered in lieu of formal degree
Experience
Must possess a minimum of 5 years quality management experience in a USDA-regulated food manufacturing environment Previous supervisory experience is strongly preferred Thorough understanding of USDA regulations and standards is required.
Skills
Communication Skills
Must have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills Must have the ability to read, analyzes, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations, the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, and the ability to effectively present information to large groups of employees and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
Computer Skills
Must have a high level of computer proficiency in a Windows environment, preferably with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook Previous experience with Quality Assurance systems or related integrated manufacturing software is strongly preferred Must have the ability to learn new software as needed.
Mathematical Skills
Must possess the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry, and the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
