Position Overview
The Automation and Controls Technician will provide electrical and controls support for maintenance activities to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment. This will be done maintaining compliance with all safety, food safety, quality, SQF, GMP and USDA requirements.
Responsibilities
Provide advanced technical support to the maintenance and operations team.
Program, troubleshoot, and repair PLCs and industrial control circuits.
Monitor software versions and perform upgrades as required.
Monitor electrical product life cycle on equipment and perform upgrades as required. ;
Maintain PLC and; HMI program backups and versions for all equipment.
Assist with updating electrical prints and schematics for all equipment.
Support cost saving initiatives such as major maintenance projects, part or equipment standardization, and alternate vendor sourcing.
Provide technical training and skills development for Maintenance Technicians and other Maintenance personnel.
Provide technical support for new equipment evaluation, install, and integration into maintenance systems.
Promote and support a continuous improvement culture.
Follow established equipment Lockout/Tagout procedures as required without fail.
Comply with all safety rules and regulations per established company policies.
Provide after-hours support as needed.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education
A Bachelors degree in an engineering field is preferred; or a combination of an Associate's degree in a technology field, completion of a craft apprenticeship, with a minimum of 7 years industrial experience.
Experience
If non-degreed, an equivalent number of years of training and production maintenance experience are required. Experience with Allen Bradley RSLogix, RSNetworx, Devicenet, PLCs, power systems, AC frequency drives is mandatory. Experience with Allen Bradley programming, including ladder logic, structured text, and scripted text programming is required.

Other Requirements
Computer Skills
Must have strong computer proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook and the Internet. Previous experience with E-Maintenance or similar web-based maintenance systems is preferred. Previous experience or training with AutoCAD or Solid Works 3-D solid modeling software is also preferred.
Mathematical Skills
Must possess strong math skills, with the ability to calculate and understand fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical solutions.
Reasoning Ability
Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal or diagram form. Must possess strong trouble shooting and problem solving skills.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the partner is frequently required to stand for extended periods, bend, walk, sit, and talk or hear. The partner is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms, with repetitive motions of hands, arms and shoulders. Partners are required to lift up to 40# on their own and periodically lift and/or move up to 75 # with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and color vision.
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an encountered while performing the essential functions of this job. There is a wide variation of temperatures ranging from 35° F to 100° F in the various production work areas. The work environment in production is wet and slippery most times. The noise level in the production work environment is usually loud, and the noise in the office is low. Maintenance Partners are required to wear frocks, EH-rated composite toed slip-resistant footwear, hairnets and hearing protection at all times on the production floor. Gloves, goggles, and face shield may be required at different times in the course of the work being performed.
