Position Overview
Manages all activities related to the maintenance of production-related equipment and components, and facility equipment including HVAC, building lighting systems, boiler, ammonia refrigeration system, building/facility security and overall facility appearance. Supervises and coordinates the work of the maintenance personnel in compliance with all safety, food safety, quality, SQF, GMP, PSM and USDA requirements
Responsibilities
- Manage the daily activities of Maintenance Technician personnel on the shift; prepare work schedules, assign work, and oversee the maintenance work projects.
- Assist with developing and maintaining Predictive and Preventive Maintenance Schedules for applicable equipment and machinery.
- Prepare work orders/assignments and preventive maintenance (PM) task list; coordinate with production to complete maintenance PMs with scheduled downtime.
- Direct the maintenance and repair of production machines and components and the facility's equipment; provide backup assistance with mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic trouble shooting and maintenance repairs as needs dictate.
- Oversee the maintenance of industrial and office plumbing.
- Develop best practices around documentation of work and equipment; track performance data and identify equipment and procedural improvement opportunities.
- Monitor the boiler system, ammonia system, pump system and septic system on a periodic basis and maintain records.
- Oversee the monitoring of forklifts and lift batteries; maintain appropriate recordkeeping log for repairs and PMs.
- Review Maintenance Request forms; determine priority and assign to Maintenance staff for completion; monitor progress and provide feedback upon project completion.
- Assist with identifying spare parts requirements and determine parts needed for jobs; identify obsolete parts and determine suitable replacements.
- Assist with the maintenance of the facilities' boiler systems and ammonia refrigeration systems.
- Respond to emergency notifications when the alarm system is activated, investigating and determining causation and initiating appropriate action.
- Assist with the maintenance of the HVAC system, including preventive maintenance, changing filters, and cleaning coils; contact outside service provider to schedule service as needed.
- Assist with monitoring air compressors and vacuum compressors periodically and schedule for service.
- Assist with ensuring that department personnel follow established equipment Lockout/Tagout procedures as required at all times.
- Ensure department personnel are trained in ammonia safety and ensure PSM compliance.
- Support the Lean Manufacturing initiatives of the company.
- Demonstrate and enforce safe work practices and compliance with all established safety policies and procedures.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises Maintenance Technicians assigned to the shift in accordance with established policies and applicable law, training, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and coaching; and addressing and resolving problems.
Education
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field is preferred, or a combination of experience and technical training such as completion of a craft apprenticeship program.
Experience
- A minimum of 10 years maintenance experience is required, preferably in a USDA-regulated food manufacturing environment A minimum of 3 years previous management experience is required.
Skills
Communication Skills
Individual must possess excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals Must be able to read and interpret schematics.
Computer Skills
Must have strong computer proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet Previous experience with a web-based integrated maintenance software system is preferred Proficiency with AutoCAD or 3-D solid modeling software for generating and/or editing schematics and mechanical drawings is also preferred.
Mathematical Skills
Individual must have advanced math skills.
Reasoning Ability
Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal or diagram form Individual must also possess strong troubleshooting skills and strong judgment and decision-making skills.
Physical Demands
Performing the duties of this job requires frequent standing for extended periods; must be able to walk; sit, climb, and talk or hear, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms, with repetitive motions of hands, arms and shoulders Must regularly lift up to 50# and periodically lift and/or move up to 75# Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.
Work Environment
The work environment described here is representative of those an encountered while performing the essential functions of this job. There is a wide variation of temperatures, ranging from 35° F to 100° F in the various work areas The work environment is wet and slippery most times, and the noise level in the production work environment is usually loud Maintenance Partners are required to wear frocks, hairnets, hearing protection, and EH-rated composite toed slip-resistant footwear at all times on the production floor Gloves, goggles, and face shield may be required at different times in the course of the work being performed.
