Position Overview

As the Logistics Coordinator, you will be responsible for leading teams that execute all inbound and outbound movement of materials, supplies, goods, and commodities. You will collaborate cross functionally with corporate Procurement, Logistics, Supply Chain and Plant Operations teams to set strategy, complete projects and problem solve to maximize profit.  Additionally, you will build relationships with suppliers and carriers, evaluate their performance, and resolve discrepancies and conflicts in a timely manner.   

Responsibilities

  • Develop, empower, and coach Team Leads in Shipping, Warehouse, Formulation and Hog Barn.
  • Direct inbound and outbound shipping and receiving activities for live animals, refrigerated goods, dry goods, animal by-products, and offal.
  • Oversee ordering non-meat ingredients for the plant and trace lean 
  • Work closely with the production coordinator and corporate scheduling team to determine formulation and finished goods schedule
  • Work closely with the procurement team to collect, report and analyze data on live animal deliveries.
  • Manage the storage tank program for all outside tanks on the property (i.e. CO2, Edge, etc.).
  • Ensure that all livestock received into the facility are handled and held in accordance with USDA, NAMI, and Johnsonville animal welfare guidelines.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external customers through networking and advocacy by offering advice, solutions leveraging data and proactive communication.
  • Develop and manage service provider relationships, ensuring compliance, accountability, and performance leveraging scorecard data and root cause analysis creating corrective actions to close gaps.
  • Develop and implement process improvements and capital improvements to ensure continuous improvement in human safety, food safety, productivity and profitability within all areas of plant logistics.
  • Lead investigations, Root Cause Analyses (RCA), Corrective Action Preventative Action (CAPA) events to improve human safety and food safety and food quality.
  • Create and revise standard operating procedures (SOP) as required to support cohesive business rules and expectations.
  • Ability to operate a wide range of internal and external software to manage budgets, performance metrics, inventories, and equipment analysis.
  • Leverage data and external learning to predict trends, create corrective actions and recommend strategies to Johnsonville leadership.
  • Proactively manage the plant’s fleet of Powered Industrial Vehicles (PIV) to include purchase, lease, inspection, repair, operation, and training.
  • Manage the PIV equipment, yard dog, and driver

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher strongly preferred

Experience

  • Previous experience in food manufacturing, logistics or scheduling required
  • 5 years of experience in transportation/logistics management preferred
  • Previous experience with livestock and animal welfare preferred
  • Demonstrated experience leading successful teams

Skills

  • Ability to source, onboard and develop strong partnerships with a diverse network of customers and teams
  • Strong background in OSHA regulatory compliance
  • Applied knowledge of DOT regulations
  • Strong software application skills
  • Ability to create comprehensive solutions and presentations
  • Excellent problem solving, task prioritization, and customer service skills required
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization including customers and corporate leaders
  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills, able to derive results from large amounts of data.

Other Requirements

  • Bi-lingual English and Spanish preferred
  • Hours: 1st Shift, flexible hours typically between 7am-4pm
  • Travel: Less than 10% of your time
