Position Overview

The Safety Leader will support the Assistant Safety Coordinator in overseeing the health and safety programs within the manufacturing facilities on the main Johnsonville campus. This individual will help ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while promoting a culture of safety across the workplace. The Safety Leader will play a key role in identifying potential hazards, conducting safety inspections, and assisting in accident investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in driving safety culture of ownership, involvement, and personal accountability
  • Complete risk assessments to mitigate potential safety risks within operations
  • Delivery of safety training programs for employees on topics such as hazard recognition, personal protective equipment (PPE), emergency response, and safe work practices
  • Assist in managing safety equipment inventory and ensure that necessary safety tools, PPE, and resources are available to employees
  • Ensure proper maintenance and use of safety equipment, including conducting regular checks and ensuring that equipment is up to code
  • Act as a first responder in case of emergencies, providing immediate assistance or coordination as necessary
  • Facilitate new hire orientation
  • Day to day engagement with Team Leaders and members to deliver safe work practices, within safety policies and programs and proper use of protective equipment, perform emergency drills and ensure members know emergency procedures and response plan
  • Own OSHA Compliance Training, and administrative support for Velocity (safety documentation system)
  • Maintain Records of incidents, SIF events and near misses
  • Implementation and execution of safety programs, drills, and practices within Operations, Maintenance, Sanitation, and Shipping
  • Maintain effective communication with the Assistant Safety Coordinator and Operations Leadership and plant leadership on safety-related issues and initiatives

Education

  • OSHA 10 Hour or OSHA 30 Hour, required
  • Advanced Safety Certification, preferred

Experience

  • 2-3 years of technical safety experience in a manufacturing environment, required
  • Strong coaching and leadership skills, preferred

Skills

  • In-depth understanding of safety standards, laws, and regulations (OSHA, local regulations, etc.) and familiarity with workplace safety programs (e.g., lockout/tagout, PPE, fire safety)
  • Proficient in identifying potential safety hazards and risks, knowledge of risk assessment and hazard analysis techniques (e.g., JHA, FMEA, HAZOP) and ability to think proactively and anticipate potential hazards before they arise
  • Ability to lead and motivate teams to prioritize safety in daily operations and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence of incidents
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively convey safety policies and procedures and ability to influence and inspire others to uphold safety standards consistently
  • Expertise with incident reporting systems and documentation
  • Quick decision-making in response to unsafe conditions or emergencies
  • Ability to ensure that employees are properly trained on equipment use, safety procedures, and emergency protocols
  • Expertise in planning and managing emergency response plans (e.g., fire, chemical spill, electrical shock)
  • Knowledge of first aid, CPR, and other emergency medical procedures
  • Strong learning agility
