Inventory and Logistics Specialist I

As a member of our supply chain team, you’ll ensure our customers receive noticeably better service and that our products are delivered accurately and on time. With great attention to detail, while still seeing the big picture, you’ll ensure all elements of the distribution process are considered and accounted for. Additionally, you’ll assist our operations team in obtaining the lowest industry cost. Working closely with internal partners, customers and vendors, you’ll provide a seamless and hassle-free logistics process.
Position Overview
As the Inventory & Logistics Specialist – Level l, you will support the end to end flow of finished goods materials across third party logistics (3PL) warehouse partners serving our customers. You will measure and drive improvements across inventory accuracy, inventory shrink, and smooth EDI flow while maintaining the highest standards of food safety and product traceability. You will have the opportunity to work with a wide cross-functional group of members throughout Johnsonville and closely with your supply chain resources to provide best-in-class levels of service to our customers. In addition, you will work on special projects like managing distressed inventory sales, customer value added services, and capital spend ventures.
Responsibilities
- Inventory Management
- Conduct daily/weekly reconciliation of inventory, including batch tracking, expiration dates, FEFO/FIFO compliance, and temperature controlled product integrity.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies, damaged product issues, or missing batches, ensuring corrective actions are documented.
- Review and approve 3PL adjustments with appropriate supporting documentation (photos, QC reports, destruction certificates, etc.).
- Investigate, process, and reconcile OS&D occurrences at 3PLs
- Work with government agencies (USDA) to successfully donate products in the United States
- Develop robust relationships with 3PL inventory counterparts to strengthen our partnerships
- Use external platform and SAP to execute weekly sales process for series B while providing superior customer service to series B customers
- Systems, Reporting & Data Accuracy
- Maintain accurate data in SAP, ensuring all transactions reflect correct batch codes, expiration dates, and quantities to match our 3PL’s
- Prepare weekly, and monthly reports on inventory accuracy, OS&D, and shrink
- Analyze trends involving scrap, returns, or warehouse errors and recommend process improvements
- Provide new product specs for 3PLs
- Develop & maintain SOP’s, shared files, and internal resource lists (i.e., series B, customization, donations, redelivery points)
- Support the setup of any new 3PL’s, EDI testing and training of 3PL members on Johnsonville inventory control procedures
- Support ERP/WMS projects, integrations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Education
- Associate degree, working toward a degree or equivalent experience required
Experience
- Familiarity with food industry inventory controls including FEFO, batch traceability required
- Strong knowledge of ERP/WMS systems and intermediate Excel proficiency (VLOOKUP, pivot tables) required
- Previous experience in food manufacturing, food distribution, or temperature‑controlled logistics preferred
- Understanding of FDA/USDA regulations, FSMA requirements, and GFSI-based schemes (e.g., SQF, BRC) preferred
- Experience with audits, traceability exercises, and recall readiness testing preferred

- Detail-Oriented – Strong focus on accuracy in batch codes, expiration dates, inventory transactions, and documentation.
- Communication & Collaboration – Coordinates effectively between supply chain, 3PLs.
- Problem-Solving – Root‑cause analysis focused on reducing scrap, eliminating errors, and driving efficiency.
- Accountability – Takes ownership of inventory integrity and service performance.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced food production environment with multiple priorities
- Knowledge of Lean principles or continuous improvement methodologies
- Familiarity with EDI order integration and customer compliance portals
Other Requirements
- Travel: Approximately 5% of your time (Some domestic and international travel is required)
- Hours: 7:00am-4:00pm (Full-time, hourly office technical)
