Position Overview
Johnsonville, LLC has an opportunity for an outstanding individual to join us as a Controls Engineer. You will be part of the Automation, Controls and Integration team to discover and integrate the latest technologies. A Controls Engineer will partner with our Engineering, Maintenance and Operations Teams to focus on projects and initiatives in the area of electrical, PLCs, and robotics within our operations. You will have the opportunity to be involved in cutting edge technology in a high growth company.
Responsibilities
- Support the development and integration of electrical control systems for machines and manufacturing processes as well as large scale communication network architecture design.
- Be part of the Automation, Controls, and Integration team discovering, designing, and implementing the latest technologies.
- Develop our organizational technical competencies surrounding programming and controls systems.
- Work on the integration, design, and support of ABB and FANUC robotics equipment.
- Write, edit and enhance PLC, PAC, and robotic programs for new and existing equipment.
- Provide initial project development including concept, design, layouts, cost estimating, cost justification, research and selection of the best equipment and project submittals with timelines and contingencies.
- Work closely with internal customers (e.g. Manufacturing Facilities, R&D, Quality, Packaging, Warehouse, IT, etc.) to support them in the accomplishment of their goals and objectives.
- Provide advice and technical direction as a support member for Johnsonville teams and production on an as-needed basis. This includes being on the 24x7 On-Call Rotation.
- Provide continuous improvement in the company’s productivity pipeline and offer innovative ways to improve the company’s performance.
- Facilitate and coordinate several projects simultaneously.
- Lead projects in support of efforts to constantly improve safety, product quality, maintainability, continuous improvement and customer service throughout Johnsonville.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, engineering technology, or related field preferred.
Experience
- Three or more years of moderate system programming experience including: PLC ladder logic, HMI screens, servo motion control, and robotics preferred.
- Three or more years of experience using structured text programming languages. Examples include programming in Ignition’s SCADA software, ABB’s Robotic Studio, or FANUC’s Karel. Other experiences using languages such as C++ or Pascal will be given consideration.
- Hardware Qualifications - Experience in any combination of the following is required:
- PLC: Micrologix, ControlLogix, CompactLogix
- Robotic: ABB, FANUC
- Servo: Kinetix 5500, 5700
- AC Drives: Allen Bradley (PowerFlex 520 series, PowerFlex 750 series)
- HMI: Allen Bradley Panelview Plus, PC based Industrial Computers
- Network: EtherNet/IP
- Vision: Cognex, Keyence, LMI
- Software Qualifications - Experience in any combination of the following is required:
- SCADA: Ignition by Inductive Automation
- Rockwell: Studio 5000, RSLogix (500, 5000), FactoryTalk View (ME, SE, ViewPoint)
- Robotic: ABB’s Robotic Studio, FANUC’s Roboguide
- Network: Command Line Interface (CLI), Cisco Catalyst Center, Cisco CyberVision
- Windows 11, Windows Office Suite
- Linux: Docker
- Azure Suite: VM interaction, database handling (SQL)
Skills
- Demonstrated track record of attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Superior programming and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Strong written & verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a team-based environment.
- Proven experience in project management/leadership.
