Members of our marketing team work on all aspects of the brand and its portfolio of products, including consumer insights, advertising, consumer promotion, shopper marketing, new products, sales, operations and finance. As a member of this team, your responsibilities could include leading the development of integrated marketing efforts, leading advertising and packaging development, promotional and website development, creating and executing media strategies and plans, championing new products, advancing consumer insights and brand strategy, and collaborating with sales teams to develop strategic partnerships. The marketing team is an integral part of the organization’s overall success.

Position Overview

As the Consumer Insights Manager, you will have the opportunity to significantly impact the success and growth of Johnsonville. Beyond providing invaluable consumer insights to drive the business, you will also be able to recommend actions to be taken, working closely with and influencing decisions across the business. A successful person in this position will not only be the voice of the consumer but also be able to have a seat at the table and see the world from a marketing and business perspective.

This position will require a high degree of collaboration with cross-functional teams to primarily support the innovation stage gate process. The Consumer Insights Manager will help support our front-of-funnel innovation team by leading key stakeholders through the insight hunting and validation process. As a key partner in custom research insights, you will outline research needs, develop a learning plan, design studies, conduct DIY research, and manage research suppliers to provide actionable research insights. You will serve as an insights expert using secondary and syndicated sources as well as proprietary qualitative and quantitative market research.

This role requires a person comfortable in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial setting, who is able to lead in the face of uncertainty and pull disparate pieces of data together for a cohesive and insightful consumer story.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the identification of opportunities and development of business cases to drive Johnsonville sausage growth through innovation.
  • Work with the front-of-funnel team and Associate Director of Consumer Insights & Analytics to identify the need for consumer insights, design and execute the learning plan, and disseminate learning internally to leadership, marketing, sales, and R&D to ensure internal alignment and understanding of consumer needs.
  • Own the development of the insights agenda for the Johnsonville brand as it relates to assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Help identify and manage outside vendors and third parties to maximize learning and value from projects. This entails actively engaging and leveraging partner intellectual horsepower, providing feedback for continual improved performance, and negotiating of contracts. 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Marketing, Social Science or a related field required

Experience

  • At least 3 years of solid Market Research/Insights/Business Analytics experience is required
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in providing consumer insights support to the early stages of the innovation process is desired
  • Experience leveraging syndicated services and DIY research platforms (such as Circana POS, Panel & Consumption Data, Datassentials, 84.51, Scintilla, or Zappi) is required.
  • Previous experience within a leading FMCG or reputable research supplier working on CPG projects, preferred
  • Previous experience with Dollar, Club and/or C-Store channel insights is a plus

Skills

  • Familiar with research tools and techniques to support CPG innovation development; both qualitative and quantitative
  • Ability to tell a story with data and comfortable presenting to leadership, focusing on representing the voice of the consumer for the Johnsonville organization
  • Solid analytical skills and ability to learn while doing if not already having a working knowledge of statistics, experimental design, survey creation and analysis, qualitative research
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple teams and proven ability to build effective partnerships with internal marketing and sales teams
  • Strong communication, organization and presentation skills (both written and oral)
  • Ability to lead and manage many projects at one time with willingness to roll up your sleeves to make it happen
  • Self-starter with the ability to work effectively as a part of a team while remote

Other Requirements

  • Ability to travel approximately 25% of the time
